Boy Erased got it’s limited release this weekend, so it’s as good a time as any to start this topic.

Crowe and Hedges have strong reviews, but on balance Kidman seems to edge the MVP reviews for Boy Erased, and seems the safest bet for an Acting nomination from that movie in the supporting actress category.

Kidman is getting career best notices for her transformative lead performance in Destroyer, and in many other years might even be a shoo-in to win. But Best Actress this year is as tough and stacked as I can ever recall, so there are no certainties.

So, can Kidman become the first actor since Cate Blanchett in 2007, to score two acting nominations at the Oscars?

Oh my God, I hope so! I love her so much! Her versatility is incredible! I fear she could end up with zero nominations though 🙁 I also think Boy Erased is more likely to earn her one than Destroyer because the latter isn’t the academy’s cup of tea (as I roll my eyes).

I have an article about her in Destroyer coming out tomorrow.

And one thing is for clear: she’s workin’ it. She’s everywhere at the moment.

Yeah, I really do feel she can pull off the double nods, mainly because as you’ve pointed out, she’s such a tireless campaigner and advocate for her films. She’s everywhere promoting both films, turning up to every SAG screening, etc. Incredible work ethic for a star who doesn’t need to work that hard.

Also she’s the best actress of her generation, and she should not have the same number of nominations as Jennifer Lawrence. Double nods would go some way to restoring karmic balance in the universe.

I currently very much doubt it. Kidman in my opinion will not get either nominations. The Best Actress race is very competitive and if the Academy goes for a more violent pic, it would likely be Widows and Viola Davis. Boy Erased is not getting much buzz besides the premiere and once again, is a packed category. Though she likely has the best chance of getting double nominations compared to Blunt and Cooper.

imo she will get at least one nomination – with the incredible wealth of potential lead actress nominees – at least 15 worthy to semi-worthy actresses – I think she will more likely be nominated for Boy Erased in the less crowded Supporting Actress category. I think her road to a lead actress nomination is going to depend on critics prizes and nominations giving her a boost – especially if they don’t nominate any one of the 3 frontrunners (most likely: Lady Gaga imo) but nominate her or some other actress not currently in the top 6 in the Gold Derby odds.

It seems like she’s sitting at #6 for both categories. If Vice turns out to be nothing, she could slip in for Boy Erased. If people don’t care about Close and The Wife she could make it in for Destroyer. But right now I think she’s looking for someone to replace.

No. She should be happy if she gets nominated one nomination.

She won’t get nominated for Destroyer. Terrible film.

Hmmm…Pete Hammond of Deadline tweeted that Kidman got a “giant standing ovation” at the Hollywood Film awards, and he thinks that bodes well for double nominations.

Hammond said only one other person got a standing ovation, but didn’t specify whom. Wonder if it was Close…

    Speaking on “Boy Erased” only:

Kidman’s memorable enough in it to be remembered, but it’s the kind of film where if it doesn’t really hit the way it should with critics and audiences, then it will likely be snubbed outright. She was much better in similar terrain playing the supportive mother figure in “Lion.” That nod was also aided by the film’s BP nod, WOM, and box office success, which this film isn’t assured of getting. The film’s message is a powerful one though despite its execution issues.

I haven’t seen the movie, but the snubbing of Kidman in BA coupled with her getting in for another mother role would be terribly sad for me.

I am really getting tired of all the negativity around Boy Erased, esp. since I have a gut feeling that most of the people making the comments haven’t seen it yet. I am seeing it on Saturday and looking forward to it immensely. My feeling is that the negativity actually has nothing to do with the actual film but a psychological need to protect the movies and actresses they prefer for nominations.

I wish Destroyer didn’t have such a late release date. I have a feeling I won’t get to see it until January. It’s one of the biggest question marks for me in the way too crowded Best Actress category.

I would be shocked if Kidman is not nominated in at least one category. Her career is on a high these days, she is campaigning big time and is well liked and highly regarded.

I saw “Boy Erased” in October and reviewed it as such. So once again, take your baseless claims out of here, b/c they’re completely wrong and half-assed.

She can manage 2 noms provided both films have a modest BO at the least.

Cause she still has some leftover buzz from BLL and she is staring in Aquaman which is gonna be huge (good or bad) that will generate ton of buzz for her and help her stay relevant.

Aquaman also has a year end release which will boost her chances.
